DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team defeated Northland College 90-67 Wednesday night at the Reif Gymnasium in a battle of teams tied for third place in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC).

How it Happened
Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS), Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) and Sam Thompson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) all drained 3-pointers in the first six minutes as the Saints had an early 13-8 advantage. A Nate Weets (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) 3-pointer made it an eight-point margin with seven minutes having past.

The LumberJacks (6-11, 4-4 UMAC) used a 10-3 run to get back within one, but the Saints would maintain the advantage. CSS then went on a 7-0 run towards the end of the half to lead 42-32 at halftime. Newman led the Saints with 12 points in the half.

On the opening possession of the second half, Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) connected on a 3-pointer and Northland would not be able to get within single-digits the rest of the way. A little later in the half, Newman scored eight straight CSS points in the span of one minute and 20 seconds as the margin grew to 19.

The Saints put it on cruise control the rest of the way, winning 90-67.
