csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team was defeated 4-2 by Concordia University Wisconsin in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action at Ozaukee Ice Center Friday night.
The Scoring
The Falcons (4-10-2, 2-6-1 NCHA) struck first, getting on the board with 6:11 left in the first period. CSS then went on the power play, but was not able to capitalize on the advantage. Shots at the end of the period finished 11-9 in favor for the Saints.
Just over two minutes into the second period, the Saints were able to tie the game.
Jon Hansen (Twig, Minn./Duluth Marshall (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) and
Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) set up
Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) to make it 1-1. But four minutes later, the Falcons were able to regain the lead on the power play. With 1:59 left to go in the period, CSS had a power play opportunity of their own, but were only able to put two shots on goal.
The third period would not see a goal until there was 8:55 left on the clock, when the Falcons struck again to increase their lead to 3-1. With 2:17 to go and their goalie pulled, the Saints were able to get a goal back. Golka got the credit. However, while CSS was pushing for an equalizer, the Falcons were able to get an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left in the game to make it 4-2.
