DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's soccer team cruised to a comfortable 5-0 victory over the University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Saturday evening at Saints Field.
The Scoring
The Saints got on the board in the 20th minute. Darby Henderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) touched Nolan Friday's (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) cross into the path of Armin Bobaric (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) on the top of the box, who was able to slot the ball in the far corner first-time. 39 seconds later, Alex Dodd (Lakeville, Minn./Burnsville HS) forced Aidan Lynch to spill his shot into the path of Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School), who was able to make it 2-0 for the Saints.
For the third and final goal of the half, Malcolm Lumsden (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College (Lake Superior College)) picked up the ball on the far side in the 38th minute and was able to dribble to the top of the 18 and place the ball in the far left corner to give the Saints a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the 73rd minute, a mistake by the Eagles' keeper allowed Jordan Finneran (Newmarket, England/Cambridge Regional College) to get in behind with an open net. Finneran was able to bend the ball in the net from a tricky angle on the end line. A minute later, CSS got its fifth and final goal of the game when Lumsden sent a beautiful ball across the six, which Finneran was able to finish after Noah Hooey (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) dummied the ball.
Goalkeeping
Aidan Lynch saved five of the 10 shots he faced on goal for the Eagles. Nicholas Semaan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) made three saves for the Saints to earn them the clean sheet.
Notable Performances
Finneran led the Saints in scoring with two goals, the first multiple-goal game of his college career. Bobaric led the Saints in shots with three.
