Men’s Soccer Welcomes Northwestern Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team hosts the University of Northwestern (Minn.) in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action Saturday at Saints Field.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-After going 3-0-1 to open UMAC play the Saints took a quick break from conference to play Carleton College from the MIAC, dropping that game in overtime 2-1.
-In the loss to Carleton, sophomore goalkeeper Nicholas Semaan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) got his first collegiate start, making 8-of-10 save in 97 plus minutes.
-Sophomore Midfielder Alex Dodd (Lakeville, Minn./Burnsville HS) picked up his first goal in 2018 with the lone goal against the Knights
-This is the first time since 2001, the Saints have used four or more goalkeepers in a season.
-The Saints offense ranks Top-100 in the country in both, total goals (97th place) with 18 goals and scoring offense (87th place) with 2.25 goals per game.
 
What You Need to Know about Northwestern:
Record: 3-5-0, 1-3-0 UMAC
-Since the last meeting between these two teams (September 18th) the Eagles have gone 1-1 almost forcing a tie with the UMAC's other top team, University Wisconsin-Superior.
-The Eagles game with the Yellowjackets was scoreless until the 84th minute when the Jackets went on the board, up 1-0. The Eagles tied it minutes later to force overtime, but ultimately couldn't force a tie with the UMAC's top offense.
-The Eagles currently sit in the bottom third of the UMAC standings at 1-3
-The Eagles offense is currently being led by junior Derrick Aminga (Two against the Saints Sept. 18) and sophomore Miguel Martinez-Urrutia with three goals apiece, three other Eagles have two goals of their own.
-Goalkeeper Aidan Lynch leads the conference with a .844 save percentage and is tied for the conference lead with two shutouts.
 
What Happened Last Time:
-By the time these two teams take the field for kickoff Saturday it will have been only 11 days since they last played each other, with the Saints coming away victorious 5-2 in St. Paul
-Five different Saints players scored in the victory over the Eagles, Derrick Aminga picked up both tallies for the Eagles.
-Michael Petoletti (Duluth, Minn./Proctor HS (Lake Superior College)) got his first start and win in a Saints uniform.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 50-12-6 (Last Meeting: 5-2 CSS – 9/18/2018)
 
Series History: With the win earlier in the month the Saints made it an 11-game winning streak over the Eagles, and a 20-game unbeaten streak. The Saints are 17-0-3 in that stretch.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will bounce out of UMAC play once again to take on the top dogs in the MIAC, Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter on Tuesday.
