ST. PAUL (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team scored four second-half goals to defeat the University of Northwestern (Minn.) 5-2 Tuesday night. Head Coach
Barry Chastey, who is in his 14th season with the Saints, marked his 200th win with the victory over the Eagles.
How it Happened
In the first half, the play between CSS and UNW was evenly matched.
Armin Bobaric (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) shot the first shot on goal for either side in the 18th minute. Minutes later, Northwestern fought back, scoring the first goal of the game and putting the Eagles on the board first at 1-0.
With two minutes left to go in the half, Bobaric tied up the game 1-1 with his second shot on goal of the game. The score would remain 1-1 going into the second half, but CSS would soon break away.
23 minutes into the second half,
Taylor Tran (Northridge, Calif./Granada Hills Charter HS) assisted to
Trygve Rennan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) to put Saints in the lead 2-1. Three minutes later,
Jordan Finneran (Newmarket, England/Cambridge Regional College) kept up the momentum of Rennan's first goal of the year by scoring again, strengthening CSS' lead to 3-1.
Now 28 minutes into the second half and two minutes after the last CSS goal, the Eagles kept up the scoring blitz and managed to sneak one past the CSS goalkeeper. Trailing 3-2, Northwestern fought hard to tie up the game, but CSS scored twice more to secure the win.
Scoring with only seven minutes left in the game,
Juan Ochoa (Chihuahua, Mexico/Prepa Tec) recorded his fifth point of the season, putting the Saints up 4-2.
Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School) scored shortly after Ochoa. With a little over two minutes left, Buckton's fifth goal of the season brought the final score to 5-2.
With the win, the Saints maintained their 11-game win streak against the Eagles.
