Women’s Track & Field has Success in Illinois & California

DON CHURCH TWILIGHT RESULTS

WHEATON, Ill. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's track & field team competed at the Don Church Twilight Invitational, hosted by Wheaton College (Ill.), on Saturday and placed fifth out of the 10 NCAA Division III schools that competed.
 
Hovland Breaks 5k Record at Mt. SAC
Senior Casey Hovland (North Branch, Minn./North Branch HS) was in action late Friday night at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Los Angeles. Hovland competed in the 5000m run against runners from all NCAA Divisions and placed sixth overall with a program-record time of 16:47.94. That bested Jen Houck's previous program record by 46 seconds. That record stood since the 2007 season. That time also puts her fifth in NCAA Division III this season.
 
St. Marie Wins in Wheaton
Sophomore Natalie St. Marie (St. Francis, Minn./St. Francis HS) won the shot put with an outdoor personal-best toss of 38'3.5" (11.67m) on Saturday. She edged out teammate Emily Conley (Marinette, Wis./Marinette HS), whose runner-up mark was 36'1.5" (11.01m).
 
Other Top Performances
Conley was also runner-up in the discus with a mark of 114'10" (35.00m).
 
Breanna Shofner (International Falls, Minn./Falls HS) placed third in the 400m dash in a time of 1:01.53. Anika Kling (Hudson, Wis./Hudson HS) was behind her in fourth with a personal-best time of 1:02.50. Mel Avinon (San Martin de los Andes, Argentina/Ontario Hockey Academy) was seventh in that event with a time of 1:04.05.
 
Sammi Argir (Chisholm, Minn./Hibbing HS) was fourth in the long jump with a mark of 16'5" (5.00m). She was sixth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.75 and also sixth in the 200m dash, posting a time of 26.36.
 
Up Next
The Saints will be in action in the Twin Ports on Saturday to compete in the Bulldog Open, hosted by the University of Minnesota Duluth. Action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
