LAKEVILLE, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's tennis team put another tally in the win column on Saturday when it faced Martin Luther College for its second Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match of the weekend, coming away with an 8-1 victory.
Doubles
CSS won two out of three of its doubles matches. In the No. 1 spot, Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") and Bryce Gadke (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield HS) won their match 8-3. Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) came close in the No. 2 spot, but ultimately fell in a tie breaker with a final score of 9-8 (7-3). With the second doubles victory, Jake Jolowsky (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) and Connor Croft (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) at No. 3 won 8-4.
Singles
The Saints swept the singles matches with Tykhonenko in the No. 1 spot, winning 6-2, 6-2. Schneider defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-0 playing at No. 2. Gadke (No. 3) and Combs (No. 4) won 6-3, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively.
Jack Kearney (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) played in the No. 5 slot and won 6-3, 6-0, and finally Jason Kent (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Altoona (Wis.) HS), playing at No. 6 earned a victory as well, with a score of 6-3, 6-2.
