Women’s Tennis Back in Action this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – After not playing a match last week due to the weather, the St. Scholastica women's tennis team hits the courts this weekend with a home match Friday against North Central University (Minn.) and on the road Saturday against Martin Luther College.

-The Saints are coming off a pair of 9-0 victories over conference opponents two weekends ago.

-Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong HS) has won nine straight singles matches.
-Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) is on a four-match singles win streak.
-Emma Bartels (Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS (Minn.-Duluth)) leads the team with nine doubles victories.
-Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) have paired up to win a team-high five doubles matches.
-With one more win at the No. 3 doubles spot, Brascugli can match the program record of 28 at that position.
-CSS is 51-30 in singles action and 26-16 in doubles play.
 
What You Need to Know about North Central:
-The Rams are 0-3 in conference play and 1-7 overall.
-The lone victory was a 6-3 non-conference win over Crown College.
-Jaila Cappelli has two wins at the No. 2 singles spot.
-Cappelli has teamed with Madalyn Meetz for two wins at No. 1 doubles.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 18-6 (Last Meeting: 9-0 CSS – 4/13/2017)
 
Series History: The Saints have swept the Rams 9-0 in all 17 previous meetings.
 
What You Need to Know about Martin Luther:
-The Knights are 2-1 in UMAC play and face the University of Minnesota Morris on Thursday.
-MLC returns its top three singles players from a season ago when it qualified for the UMAC Tournament.
-Anna Hemmelman at the No. 1 spot leads the team with six singles wins.
-Hemmelman was an All-UMAC selection last year.
-The Knights are 20-34 in singles and 8-19 in doubles.

Series History: The Saints have swept the Knights the last five times the teams have met in New Ulm.
