Women’s Tennis Wins First Match in Florida

ORLANDO, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team began its spring break with a 7-2 victory over Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) Sunday morning at the USTA Center.
 
Doubles:
The Saints had the edge following doubles action after winning two of the three matches. The No. 2 pair of Elise Hauer (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) and Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) won by an 8-2 score. The No. 3 team of Jolene Duda (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and Kelly Neil (Mora, Minn./Mora HS) dropped only one game in an 8-1 win.
 
Singles:
Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong HS) had few hiccups on her victory at the No. 3 spot by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) also won in straight sets at the No. 2 spot by scores of 6-2, 6-1. Taylor Neil (Mora, Minn. /Mora HS) sealed the dual match win with a 6-3, 6-0 straight sets win at the No. 6 position.
 
At the No. 1 spot, Daniela Rojas (Monterrey, Mexico/Universidad Tecmilenio) rallied from a set down to win in a third set super-breaker 1-6, 6-4, (10-6). The final singles win was by Angela Meschke (Little Falls, Minn. /Little Falls HS) at the No. 5 spot by scores of 7-6 (7-1), 6-4.
 
Up Next:
The Saints (3-4) have two matches tomorrow against Belhaven University (Miss.) in the morning at 10 a.m. (ET) and Dickinson College (Pa.) on clay courts in the evening at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
