ORLANDO, Fla. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's tennis team defeated Saint Ambrose University (Iowa) 7-2 Sunday morning at the USTA Center for its first victory of the season.
Doubles:
The Saints also earned their first doubles wins of the season, sweeping all three matches, The No. 1 team of
Serhii Tykhonenko (Kiev, Ukraine/Lyceum #100 "Podil") and
Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) won 8-2. The No. 2 tandem of
Trace Combs (White Bear Lake, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) and
Jack Kearney (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) prevailed 8-6 and the No. 3 duo of
Jake Jolowsky (Hibbing, Minn./Hibbing HS) and
Connor Croft (Virginia, Minn./Virginia HS) won 8-3.
Singles:
Schneider blanked his opponent at the No. 2 spot 6-0, 6-0 for his third singles win of the season. Kearney then sealed the dual match victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 4 spot.
Tykhonenko took the first set in a tiebreaker en route to a win at the No. 1 spot 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. The final singles win was by Combs at the No. 3 spot in a third set super-breaker 6-4, 5-7, (10-8).

The Saints (1-4) have two matches tomorrow against Belhaven University (Miss.) in the morning at 10 a.m. (ET) and Dickinson College (Pa.) on clay courts in the evening at 7:30 p.m. (ET).
