The Action
Both teams blanked in the first period. The Saints were able to hold back the Gusties (4-6-1) after being outshot 13-6.

The Saints bounced back in the second period, tying in shots on goal with 15 for both teams. Five minutes in, CSS scored to take the lead. Zach Satalino (Fort Wayne, Ind./Homestead HS (Lawrence)) assisted Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) for the first goal of the game. The 1-0 margin continued into the third.

Both teams scored quickly in the third. Three minutes in, Kyle Star (Langley, British Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) scored off of a Pionk assist, strengthening St. Scholastica's lead to 2-0. 20 seconds later, a penalty was called on the Saints for interference, putting the Gusties on the first power-play opportunity of the game. Gustavus scored quickly on the power-play to bring the score to 2-1.

With one minute left in the game, the Gusties pulled their goaltender to put an extra attacker on the ice in an attempt to tie up the game. Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) took full advantage, scoring on the empty net with 45 seconds left. Golka's fourth goal of the season brought the final tally to 3-1.
