DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – In the first Bridge Battle of the season, the St. Scholastica men's basketball team defeated the University of Wisconsin-Superior by a score of 85-51 at Reif Gymnasium on Wednesday.

How it Happened
Sam Thompson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) opened the scoring off a three-pointer in the first seconds of the game. Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) made a pair of free throws and then converted a 3-point play minutes later to give the Saints an 8-0 lead two minutes in. CSS had an 11-0 run later in the half with Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) scoring nine of the 11 points during that run. CSS quickly began to pull away from the Yellowjackets, and midway through the half had a 28-12 lead.

In the final 10 minutes of the first half, the Saints out-scored UWS 25-7, to go into halftime with a 53-19 lead. The Saints shot 63-percent from the floor in the half, making eight 3-pointers. Wilken was 8-for-8 from field in the half.

UWS tried to make a comeback in the second half, putting up 16 points midway through the half while only allowing the Saints 14. But it was too little too late, as the Saints still had a 32-point lead. By the end of the game, CSS was able to increase its lead to 34 to finish the game 85-51 in favor of the Saints.
