MANKATO, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was defeated by Bethany Lutheran College by a score of 90-74 on Saturday in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week.
 
First Half
The Saints got on the board first after Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) made a layup to make it 2-0. But after a layup and a free throw from the Vikings, they would take the lead, which they would hold for the majority of the half.
 
The Saints would get within a point of Bethany five times, before finally tying the game at 32-32 with 3:37 left in the half thanks to a 3-pointer by Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS).
 
But the Vikings were quickly able to regain their lead and went into halftime with a nine-point advantage over CSS.
 
Second Half
The Vikings picked up where they had left off, and by midway through the half had earned a 17-point lead.
 
With 6:09 left in the game, the Vikings had increased their lead to 22 points, the highest of the game. The Saints were able to rally late and reduce their lead to 16, to finish the game with a score of 90-74 in favor of the Vikings.
 
Top Performers for the Saints
Four Saints reached double figures; Newman led with 22, Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) had 18, and Anderson and Connor Gray (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) each had 12. Gray led in rebounds with eight. 
 
Top Performers for the Vikings
Austin Bauer led the Vikings in scoring with 22 points, 21 of which came from 3-pointers. Jake Dale recorded eight rebounds.
 
Up Next
The Saints (3-4, 1-1 UMAC) continue conference play with a matchup at North Central University (Minn.) on Wednesday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
