Men’s Soccer Travels for a Pair of UMAC Games

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team stays out on the road and resumes Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play at Martin Luther College Saturday and the Bridge Battle Part II Monday night in Superior.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-Both games will be rematches from a mid-September week that saw the Saints go 2-0-1. Last time out the Saints drew a tie against University of Wisconsin-Superior at home, and they gave Martin Luther College more than they could handle in a convincing 4-1 win.
-The Saints are coming off a 4-2 loss on the road to the top MIAC team, Gustavus Adolphus College.
-It was the most goals the Saints have scored in a loss or tie this season.
-Junior goalkeeper Corey Bulheller (Middleton, England/Highfields Secondary School (Bacone)) returned to action for the first time since leaving the game against UWS on September 15.
-The Saints have scored 17 goals in five conference games so far this season, and have scored four or more goals in 3-of-the-5.
-The Saints are 2-3-0 on the road this season, 2-0-0 in conference play. Monday's game will mark the last of a five-game stretch where four of the games were on the road.
-Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School) still leads the Saints in goals (7) and points with (16), but it has been two new guys that have also helped pace the Saints offensive attack. Junior transfer Malcolm Lumsden (Kingston, Jamaica/Kingston College (Lake Superior College)) and freshman Jordan Finneran (Newmarket, England/Cambridge Regional College) are tied for second on the team with 12 points apiece. -With one of the Saints two goals against Gustavus senior Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School) is the 12th player in program history to record at least 100 career points. He is also an assist away of becoming the eighth player to record at least 30 goals and 30 assists in a career.
-Fellow senior Darby Henderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) is three points of 50 career points.
-Last time on the field against the Knights, Lumsden had his first career hat-trick as a Saint, he also recorded the game's lone assist.
 
What You Need to Know about Martin Luther:
Record: 3-6-2, 2-1-2 UMAC
-Martin Luther doing all they can to make it into the UMAC playoffs for what would be the third year in a row. Drawing ties against two teams currently in playoff positions, University of Minnesota Morris, and Bethany Lutheran College.
-The Knights are 3-2-1 at home this season, 2-0-1 in UMAC home games.
-Joe Graumann leads the Knights' offense with seven goals and five assists for 19 points.
-Graumann had the team's lone goal last time out against the Saints
-Gabriel Plocher has played every minute for the Knights in net this year, the senior has a 2.36 GAA and a .735 save percentage in 11 games this year.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 34-9-0 (Last Meeting: 4-1 CSS – 9/22/2018)
 
Series History: The Saints are still working on a 21-game win streak against Martin Luther. They have only allowed 12 goals to the Knights in that span.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-Superior:
Record: 9-2-1, 4-0-1 UMAC
-The Jackets have only two losses on their schedule, both to teams who have appearances in D3soccer.com Top-25 poll
-The lone tie came against the Saints on September 15 in a 1-1 game.
-James Bruce had the lone goal for the Jackets last time out against the Saints.
-Goalkeeper Dalton VonKaenel surrendered one goal off a Buckton strike. He made four saves on five Saints' shots.
-The Jackets are ranked sixth in the country for assist per game (3), second for total assists (36), eighth for total points (106), and 11th for total goals (35).
 
Series Record: CSS leads 14-5-6 (Last Meeting: 1-1 tie – 9/15/2018)
 
Series History: Historically the Saints have run this series, but since 2016 it has been a relatively even series. Since 2016 the Saints narrowly lead 2-1-3. This will be the first meeting in Superior since October of 2016, a 3-1 CSS victory.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints return home for another UMAC game next Wednesday, this time the first meeting of 2018 against Northland College, kickoff is at 1 p.m.
