MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (
csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's soccer team shut out North Central University (Minn.) 5-0 Wednesday afternoon after scoring five goals in the second half, with three of the goals being scored in the first 15 minutes of the half. The Saints have now secured the second seed in the UMAC Tournament and will host at least one home playoff game in the semifinals next Wednesday.
The Action
In the first half, the Saints outshot the Rams 7-3, but were unable to score.
Taylor Tran (Northridge, Calif./Granada Hills Charter HS) tallied the first shot and St. Scholastica recorded three more before North Central shot once. The first half was scoreless, but the momentum quickly picked up in the second half.
CSS dominated the second half. The Saints scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the half. The first came from an assist by
Armin Bobaric (Andover, Minn./Andover HS) to
Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School), putting the Saints on the board 1-0. Six minutes after that, Buckton scored his second goal of the game, advancing the Saints lead to 2-0. Bobaric assisted to
Darby Henderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) to finish this trio of goals in the 61st minute of the game. Henderson's seventh goal of the season pushed the score to 3-0.
Even after a quick switch of goalkeepers by North Central, the Saints' offense kept their hot streak going. Bobaric scored off a
Nolan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) assist in the 82nd minute of the game, bumping the lead to 4-0. The final goal of the game came from Bobaric, netting his sixth point of the contest with a minute left.
The final tally was 5-0, extending CSS' win streak against North Central to 17.
Notable Performances
Buckton led the team with five shots. Henderson, Bobaric and
Juan Ochoa (Chihuahua, Mexico/Prepa Tec) each recorded three shots on goal.
CSS goalkeeper
Nicholas Semaan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) saved the one shot he faced. This game marked his second shutout of the season. North Central's goalkeeper Gabe Hartwig played for the first 70 minutes, stopping three out of six shots faced. Ryan Mau stepped in for the last 20 minutes, and saved two of four shots.

The Saints (9-7-2, 8-2-1 UMAC) adventure to Bethany Lutheran College for the last regular season game of the year. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. in Mankato.
