Men’s Soccer Heads to Macalester Wednesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team plays their second of two games against MIAC teams as they head to St. Paul to take on Macalester College Wednesday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints are in a stretch where they have dropped four of the last five games. Two of which have been against Top-4 teams in the MIAC standings. It won't get any easier as Macalester is slotted in the second place spot in those same standings with 16 points.
-CSS has scored at least four goals in four of its five wins thus far this season.
-The Saints have given up 15 goals in that stretch including three, four games.
-Freshman Jordan Finneran (Newmarket, England/Cambridge Regional College) recorded the Saints only goal in the loss to the University of St. Thomas on Sunday, he now has a point in six of the last seven games for the Saints.
-Senior Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School) leads the team with goals (9) and points (21).
-Sophomore goalkeeper Nicholas Semaan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School) played in the loss to St. Thomas on Sunday, his third start of the season, he allowed three goal on 10 shots. Two of his starts have been against MIAC teams in those games he has allowed five goals on 20 shots.
 
What You Need to Know about Macalester:
Record: 8-4-2, 5-1-1 MIAC
-The Scots come into Wednesday's game second in the MIAC standings with 16 points.
-The Scots are 2-2 in their last four, with a pair of 2-1 victories over St. Olaf College and Bethel University. Their latest game is a 2-0 loss to Luther College (Iowa). The Saints lost to Luther 2-1 in their first official game of the season.
-Senior midfielder Clayton Smith leads the Scots with goals (7) and points (14).
-Senior goalkeeper Colton Wenig has started all the games for the Scots, in 14 games he has only allowed 12 goals on 37 shots.

Series History: Macalester leads the series with nine victories and has been helped with two, four-game winning streaks. The first from '90 to '07 and the present one starting in '13. The Scots have won the last four meetings, all shutouts, they have scored six goals in the process. The last time the Saints have gotten a goal past a Scots goalkeeper was September 1, 2012 in a 1-0 CSS victory.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will return to UMAC play for the remainder of the season and face off against Crown College in Duluth Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
