Women’s Tennis Drops Season Opener to UMD

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's tennis team opened its 2018 season on Friday night with a 6-3 setback to the University of Minnesota-Duluth at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center.
 
Doubles:
The only CSS doubles team to come out on top was the No. 3 team of Emma Bartels (Roseville, Minn./Mounds View HS (Minn.-Duluth)) and Alexia Brascugli (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) by a score of 8-1.
 
The No. 2 team of Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Elizabeth Fink (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century HS) was edged by a score of 8-6.
 
Singles:
The first three singles matches to finish belonged to UMD, which meant the Bulldogs clinched the dual.
 
However, Rice earned a win at the No. 3 spot by scores of 6-2, 6-2. The other Saint to win was Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong HS) at the No. 5 spot by scores of 6-0, 6-3.
