APPLETON, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The No. 15 St. Scholastica men's hockey team was defeated by Lawrence University (Wis.) 4-3 Friday night, with a strong CSS third period rally not being enough to catch up. The Saints had the longest winning streak in all collegiate men's hockey at 10 games.

First Period
The first goal of the game came early, with Lawrence getting the puck past the CSS defense two minutes into the game. With less than two minutes to go in the opening period, the Vikings had a penalty called on their team for hitting after a whistle. But, this penalty did not hinder the Vikings, and about 30 seconds later, the team scored shorthanded. The Vikings were now at a score of 2-0 going into the second.

Second Period
Both teams were able to shut each other down until 12 minutes elapsed. Here, tensions rose resulting in matching minors and one major penalty for CSS. The Vikings took full advantage of the major, scoring seven seconds in. LU played off the momentum of this goal, and would be able to get one more goal before the power play was over, putting the score at 4-0.

With almost 30 seconds left, Davis Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) and Kale Derkson (Regina, Saskatchewan/Sheldon Williams Collegiate/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Notre Dame-SJHL)) were able break through the LU defense and assist to Seth Chumley (Cambridge, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's (Minnesota Iron Rangers-SIJHL)) for St. Scholastica's first goal of the game to make it 4-1 heading into the third.

Third Period
Both of St. Scholastica's goals this period were off of power plays and CSS has recorded at least one power-play goal in each of the last 11 games. Ten minutes in, Davis Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)), assisted by Brett Radford (Campbell River, British Columbia/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL)) and brother Nolan Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)), scored with six seconds left on the power-play. With D. Ross' seventh goal of the season, the Saints tightened the lead to 4-2.

Two minutes later, N. Ross, assisted by D. Ross and Kyle Star (Langley, British, Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)), fed off the momentum and scored a minute into the next power play. St. Scholastica's second power play goal of the game put the score at 4-3. The Saints fought to score one more goal in the last half of the period, but were shut down by Lawrence. Time ran out and Lawrence won the game 4-3. CSS out shot the Vikings 21-11 in the third period.

Goaltending
CSS goaltender Forbes Ploszaj (Gilbert, Arizona/Gilbert HS (Aberdeen-NAHL)) played the first two periods, stopping the 15 out of 19 shots he faced. Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) played the third, stopping 11 out of 11 shots. Lawrence goalie Greg Procopio stopped 39 of 42 shots during the three periods he was on the ice.

Up Next
The Saints (13-6-1, 7-4-1 NCHA) stay on the road and stop in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin for a game against Marian University (Wis.) tomorrow. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
