Anderson's 31 Leads Men's Basketball over Crown

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica men's basketball team beat Crown College by a score of 102-83 on Saturday at the Reif Gymnasium thanks to a season-high 31 points from Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) to improve to 4-3 in conference play.

First Half
Crown (6-9, 2-5 UMAC) opened the scoring off a 3-pointer before CSS responded with a layup by Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS). Crown held onto their lead until seven minutes into the half, when Anderson converted a layup to make it 8-7 in favor of the Saints. St. Scholastica went on an 18-0 run for nearly seven minutes to take a 20-7 lead. Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) had seven of the 18 points. CSS would lead by double-figures the rest of the way.
 
The Saints led 43-29 at the half. CSS outscored the Storm in the paint 24-10 in the half
 
Second Half
The Storm kept the margin below 15 for the before Anderson went off five minutes into the second half. The Saints went on a 16-1 run in less than three minutes with Anderson going 4-for-4 from beyond the arc and Dylan Zimmerman (Elmdale, Minn./Upsala HS) adding the other four points. CSS led by as much as 28, but Crown responded with a 14-2 run and got it back down to 13 on two occasions, but Nate Weets (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) connected on back-to-back 3-pointers to keep the Storm from getting any closer.
 
The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half for a final score of 102-83 in favor of CSS.
 
Top Performances for CSS
Anderson led the Saints in scoring with 31, going 7-of-12 from beyond the arc. Weets had 15, Newman had 13 and Zimmerman had 10. Zach Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) led with eight rebounds and six assists.
 
Top Performances for the Opponent
Three players put up double figures for the Storm; Timothy Wendel had a game-high 33, Austin VanDerHeyden 15 and Logan Strand 11.
