DECORAH, Iowa (csssaints.com) - The College of St. Scholastica men's soccer team could not find success on its first road trip of the season, losing 5-1 to No. 23 Luther College (Iowa), managing only two shots on goal.

The Action
For the first 25 minutes of the game, the Saints held their own against Luther until Ben Keller of the Norse hit a goal off a cross to make the score 1-0. CSS rallied though, and made quick work of closing the point deferential with a Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School) goal, his fourth of the season. Unfortunately for St. Scholastica, that would be the last of its scoring. The first half saw one more goal from the Norse, coming from Tyler Pieper.

With halftime to regroup, the Saints were looking to come back out and start things up on offense, but they could not find their groove. In the 59th minute, the Norse extended their lead to 3-1 with a goal from Brunno Colon. 15 minutes passed with no action then two goals from Luther, just one minute apart Joshua Donkor and Victor Machado, made the score 5-1.

Notable Performances
Buckton had the sole goal for CSS. He's had at least a point in seven of the last eight games, extending into the end of last season, and he's scored at least one goal in three out of four games this season alone. Trygve Rennan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had the other shot on goal for the Saints. In the goal for the Saints was Sandy Davidson-Hunt (Kenora, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas), who saved four of the nine shots he faced.

The goals for the Norse went to Colon, Pieper, Keller, Donkor, and Machado. Andrew Avram had two shots on goal, although he didn't manage to put one past the keeper. Keeper for Luther was Carson Davenport, who saved one of the two shots sent his way during the game.

Up Next
The Saints (2-2) will be back in Minnesota this week on Wednesday when they travel to Minneapolis to take on North Central University (Minn.) in their first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup of the season.
