SUPERIOR, Wis. (
csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica men's basketball team triumphed over University of Wisconsin-Superior 83-74 Saturday evening in a game that featured 11 ties and 14 lead changes.
The First Half
Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) got the Saints on the board first, netting a good layup to put the Saints on the board 2-0. Five minutes later, the Yellowjackets would manage to tie up the game at 8-8. CSS would remain within at least five points as it tried to regain the lead. The Saints would manage to tie the game up 15-15 on
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) 3-pointer, but Superior would re-gain the lead and open up a six-point advantage.
St. Scholastica tied up the game two more times before Anderson shot another good 3-pointer to take the lead back at 26-24. The Yellowjackets netted two good free throws to tie the game at 26-26 and end St. Scholastica's short lead. Superior extended the lead to seven points with 2:30 left in the half, but the Saints closed the half with an 8-0 run thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers by
Joe Stark (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS). With 30 seconds left,
Kory Deadrick (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) scored, giving the Saints a 40-39 lead going into the second half.
The Second Half
To get the second half started, the Yellowjackets took the lead back with two good free throws, pushing the score to 41-40. CSS stayed on Superior's heels, and was be in the lead again 47-46 after Newman shot a good layup.
UWS would fight through the Scholastica defense quickly to lead at 49-47. St. Scholastica would tie up the game three times before taking the lead back at 55-53 and with 12 minutes left to go in the game. The Yellowjackets would stay within at least four points of CSS before leading again 58-57 with 10 minutes left to go in the game. St. Scholastica's Anderson would quickly score another good layup to take back the lead at 61-60.
CSS would carry a small lead as UWS would tie the game up for the 10th and 11th time in the contest. With five minutes left in the game, Deadrick would net a good layup to put the Saints at 69-67. The Yellowjackets would get back within twice but Newman and
Dylan Zimmerman (Elmdale, Minn./Upsala HS) had the answer on each occasion. From here, the Saints would permanently stay in the lead for the rest of the game, winning 83-74.
Top Performers
Anderson scored a game-high 16 points for the Saints. Newman scored the second most points, netting 15.
Zach Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) scored 12, while Deadrick added 11 points and 10 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double.

Montroy Scott and Rafael Monteiro scored the most points for UWS (6-17, 5-9 UMAC), with 15 points each.
