MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's basketball team lost to the University of Minnesota Morris by a score of 72-66 on Saturday.
 
First Half
The hosts started the game well, going on an eleven-point run before Zach Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) opened the scoring for the Saints off of a jumper. At the midpoint of the first half, the score was 21-13 in favor of Morris. Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) hit a free throw with just over eight minutes left in the half which spurred the Saints on to shrink the point gap. Minutes later, Nate Weets (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) made a three-pointer to make it a seven-point game. Morris added two points before Newman made a layup and a three-pointer to reduce the deficit to six.
 
With three minutes remaining in the half, Morris held a 35-26 lead, until the Saints went on a four-point run to make it 35-30 with just over two minutes remaining. Dylan Zimmerman (Elmdale, Minn./Upsala HS) added a layup for the Saints, but the half would finish 38-32 in favor of Morris.
 
Second Half
The Cougars started to pull ahead from the Saints, earning a 13-point lead six minutes into the half. But the Saints responded with an eight-point run to make it 47-42 in favor of Morris.
 
With just under seven minutes remaining in the game, Dylan Zimmerman (Elmdale, Minn./Upsala HS) made two free throws to make it a four-point game. But Morris then went on a eight-point run to make it 64-52 in favor of the Cougars with four minutes remaining. CSS responded with a seven-point run of their own to cut the Cougars' lead to five.
 
With just over 30 seconds remaining in the game, the score stood at 68-63 in favor of Morris. Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) made a three-pointer for the Saints, but Morris added to their lead with four free-throws to end the game at 72-66 in favor of Morris.
 
Top Performances for CSS
Three Saints put up double figures. Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) had 16, Zach Dahlman (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) 12 and Dylan Zimmerman (Elmdale, Minn./Upsala HS) 10. Newman led the Saints in rebounds with nine.
 
Top Performances for the Opponent
CD Douglas led the Cougars in scoring, putting up 23 points. Noah Grove and Trent Jerome had 14 and 10 points, respectively.
