DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's basketball team scored a season high 99 points on Wednesday night in the Reif Gymnasium to defeat North Central University (Minn.) 99-63 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action.

50-Point First Half
The Saints started strong and never stopped. The first six points all came from Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) on two 3-pointers. With a pair of layups and a couple 3-pointers of their own, the Rams managed to keep up with Saints for a bit and tie things up at 10-10, but that was as close as they'd get to the taking the lead for the entire game. The Saints scored 16 unanswered points to run with the lead, then slowly kept adding to the point deficit to push the Rams further behind. By the end of the half, the Saints were up by a margin of 29 points with a score of 50-21.

Strong Second Half
The first four points after halftime were scored by North Central, and for the first minutes of the half the Rams looked like they might rally back with 12 unanswered points to shrink the point margin from 29 at the start of the half to 17 after six and a half minutes had passed. The Saints got back on track thanks to Nate Weets (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) and Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS), who, between just the two of them, outscored the Rams 12-2 points in the next two minutes. Despite the Rams going 19-for-19 in the second half on free throws, 11 of them coming in the last seven minutes of the game, the Saints showed no signs of slowing down and, by the end of the game, were ahead by 36 points with a final score of 99-63.

Notable Performances
For the Saints, Wilken led the offense with a season-high 27 points. Behind him was Weets with 13 points. Newman hit double-digit points for the ninth game in a row, with 12. Connor Gray (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) and Sam Thompson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) each pulled in seven rebounds. Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) added a career-high nine assists.

For the Rams, Jared High hit 16 points with seven rebounds. Joel Cline earned a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. CJ Lewis also had a good offensive game with 10 points.
