DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's hockey fell to Lake Forest College (Ill.) 1-0 Saturday at Mars Lakeview Arena. CSS had won the last five meetings against Lake Forest at home and had won the last three in the series overall.

First Period
Two minutes in, the first of three penalties in the first period was called. A two minute minor penalty was called on CSS for slashing, giving LFC an early power-play. Lake Forest was able to get three shots on goal during, but were saved by CSS goaltender Forbes Ploszaj (Gilbert, Arizona/Gilbert HS (Aberdeen-NAHL)).

One minute after the Saints returned to full strength, another penalty was called on St. Scholastica for interference. During this power-play, CSS was able to limit the Foresters to one shot on goal.

CSS got its chance of a power-play with six minutes left to go in the period, after a penalty was called on LFC for interference. The Saints were able to get two shots on goal, but the Forester's defense limited them to no good scoring opportunities. Play continued to be evenly matched and intense as time ran out on the clock. The teams went into the second period 0-0, with the Saints having seven shots on goal and the Foresters shot nine.

Second Period
Five penalties were called this period, with four being called against the Saints and one against the Foresters, but two canceled out due to both being called for hitting after whistle and occurring at the same time. These penalties lead to LFC having three separate power play opportunities, but the Saints were able to limit the Foresters to just two shots on goal.

The Saints were able to break away more during this period, with 15 shots on goal compared to LFC's eight. However, the Saints were unable to get past Forester goaltender, and would continue to struggle as they went into the next period tied 0-0.

Third Period
Just like the period before, five penalties were called, but three were called on CSS and two were called on LFC.
The very last penalty was called on the Saints with four minutes left to go in the game. This gave Lake Forest a power play opportunity, which they took full advantage of.

In the two power play opportunities before this period, CSS was able to shut down the Foresters to no shots on goal. But on this last man-advantage, the Foresters were able to sneak the puck past the CSS goalie Ploszaj and score to take the lead with less than three minutes remaining. The Saints tried to tie up the game and send the game into overtime, but were unable to. The final buzzer rang and the final score was 1-0 in favor of LFC.

Nolan Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) led the Saints with five shots on goal. Davis Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)), Seth Chumley (Cambridge, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret’s (Minnesota Iron Rangers-SIJHL)), and Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) each had four.

For goaltending, St. Scholastica's Ploszaj saved 23 out of 24 shots he faced. Lake Forest's goaltender, De Courey saved 35 out of 35 shots.
