DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team surrendered a pair of goals in the opening 12 minutes and fell to Concordia University Wisconsin 3-1 Friday night in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NHCA) play.

The Action
The Falcons (4-1-0, 2-1-0 NCHA) scored one minute and 21 seconds into the game on a Josh Adkins goal. Adkins added his second of the night 10 minutes later to extend the Concordia lead to 2-0. That would be the score at the first intermission with each team recording 13 shots on goal.

The Saints went on the power-play five minutes into the second period, but the Falcons were the ones scoring short-handed less than 30 seconds into that power-play to make it 3-0. That would be the score at the second intermission as CSS was held goal-less for the sixth straight period.

CSS did finally capitalize on a power-play opportunity five minutes into the third period on Kale Derkson (Regina, Saskatchewan/Sheldon Williams Collegiate/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Notre Dame-SJHL))'s first goal of the season. Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)) and Parker Mismash (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) had the assists.

Three minutes later, CUW was called for a five-minute major, giving the Saints an opportunity to get back into the game. However, CSS managed only two shots on goal in four minutes and then committed a penalty themselves to end the power-play. The Saints had another power-play later in the period and could not capitalize as the Falcons came out on top 3-1.

Goaltending
Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) had 26 saves in the loss for the Saints. Nick Malvin had 29 saves to earn his third win of the season for the Falcons.
