Men's Soccer Set for Another Battle with UWS

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – For the third consecutive year, the St. Scholastica men's soccer team will face Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior for the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament Championship on Saturday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints will be making their 12th straight UMAC Tournament Championship game appearance.
-CSS has won the last five UMAC Tournament titles and 10 overall.
-CSS rallied from a one-goal halftime deficit to defeat fellow rival University of Minnesota Morris 2-1 on Thursday.
-It was the second time this season, CSS trailed at the half to come back and win; the other was the season-opener against Concordia College-Moorhead.
-Juan Ochoa (Chihuahua, Mexico/Prepa Tec) had the game-tying goal and Noah Hooey (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS) recorded the game-winner.
-Ochoa and Hooey have each scored a goal in the last two games they have appeared in.
-Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School) had the game-winning goal and assisted the other goal in the regular season meeting against the Yellowjackets.
-Darby Henderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) scored the first goal against UWS.
-Senior goalkeeper Sandy Davidson-Hunt (Kenora, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) made nine saves in the regular season win over UWS and had 12 saves in last year's UMAC Championship against the Yellowjackets.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-Superior:
-The Yellowjackets enter Saturday's championship game with a 14-6-1 overall record.
-UWS has advanced to the UMAC Tournament championship game every year since joining the UMAC three years ago.
-Superior needed overtime to defeat the University of Northwestern 2-1 on Thursday at Superior High School.
-The Yellowjackets finished two points back of the Saints during the regular season with a 10-1-1 conference record.
-UWS ranks in the top 10 in NCAA Division III in scoring offense (3.4 goals/game) and shots on goal per game (10.5).
-Jon Bucklew leads the team with 28 points, accumulating 11 goals and six assists.
-Eric Watson has a team-high 12 goals with 27 points.
-Former Saint Gunnar O'Neill-Sengbush has a team-high eight assists and scored the lone goal for UWS against the Saints during the regular season.
-Fernando Bicalho has scored at least one goal in each of the last three games, including netting the game-winner on Thursday.
-Goalkeeper Dalton VonKaenel led the conference with a 1.16 goals-against-average.

Series History: This will be the third different site in Duluth in the last three years for the UMAC Tournament Championship between the Bridge Rivals … CSS prevailed last year in PKs at Saints Field and won 5-0 in 2015 at Ordean Stadium … The Saints won the lone regular season meeting at Saints Field by a 2-1 score on October 3 … The last time the two teams met at Public Schools Stadium, UWS prevailed 1-0 in double overtime in 2011 … UWS also beat the Saints in overtime in 2006 at PSS.
 
Looking Ahead: The winner of Saturday's championship game will receive the conference's automatic qualifier into next week's NCAA Division III Tournament. The 62-team field will be announced at 12:30 p.m. Monday on NCAA.com.
