SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Superior scored two first period goals and then hung on to defeat the St. Scholastica men's hockey team 2-1 on Saturday night at Wessman Arena.

The Action
The Saints went on the power-play midway through the first period, but it was the Yellowjackets (3-6) who took advantage scoring a short-handed goal with 10:49 on the clock to make it 1-0 UWS. CSS did not get a shot on goal on the power-play.

With less than three minutes to go in the opening period Superior added to its lead with an even-strength goal to make it 2-0. UWS out-shot CSS 12-5 in the first period. Brett Radford (Campbell River, British Columbia/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL)) hit the pipe towards the end of period.

Following a scoreless second period, the Saints took advantage of a major penalty following by a minor penalty on the 'jackets late in the third period. Parker Mismash (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) beat the goaltender to cut the UWS lead to 2-1. Goaltender Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) had the assist, his second of the season.

However, the Saints were called for a penalty following the goal, which took away the continued power-play from the major. CSS pulled the goalie in the final two minutes, but could not find the equalizer in a 2-1 loss to the rival Yellowjackets.

Goaltending
Trenciansky had 28 saves in the defeat for the Saints. Cole Skinner recorded 22 saves to earn the win for the Yellowjackets.
