Women’s Basketball Heads to the Rocky Mountains

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team will take part in the Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday in Colorado Springs, hosted by Colorado College.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints suffered their first loss of the season on Tuesday, falling 70-63 to Augsburg University.
-Rashonna Thomas (Minneapolis, Minn./Columbia Heights HS (Anoka-Ramsey CC)) and Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) each scored a team-high 14 points.
-Thomas is currently tied for the conference lead in scoring at 18.0 points per game and makes 50 percent of her field goal attempts.
-VanKempen is averaging a league-best 4.0 assists per game.
-Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) recorded her second career double-double Tuesday night with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
-Walther averages 6.5 defensive rebounds per game.
-CSS is averaging 11.0 per quarter in the first and third periods and 22.0 points in the second and fourth periods.
-The Saints are 4-5 since the 2002-03 season in games outside the Midwest.
 
What You Need to Know about Colorado College:
-The Tigers will enter Friday's contest with a 1-2 overall record.
-CC earned its first win of the season on Tuesday with a 60-56 victory over North Central College (Ill.)
-The Tigers return three starters from last year's squad.
-Colorado College was picked to finish seventh in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC).
-Junior guard Casey Torbet is back after earning All-SCAC honors last season and leading the team in scoring at 11.2 points per game.
-So far this year, Torbet is averaging a team-high 15.7 points per game.
-McKenzee Gertz is also averaging in double-figures at 11.3 points per game and is averaging a team-best 8.3 rebounds per contest.
-CC is averaging 26.3 turnovers per game.

-Sul Ross will face Nebraska Wesleyan University on Friday before facing the Saints on Saturday.
-The Lobos have been picked to finish sixth in the West Division of the American Southwest Conference (ASC).
