Women’s Basketball Travels to Augsburg Tuesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team has its first road game of the season Tuesday night when it faces Augsburg University.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints won their second season opener in the last three seasons with a victory over St. Olaf College last Wednesday.
-The win snapped a 21-game losing streak against the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) dating back to the start of the 2005-06 season.
-In her first game as a Saint, junior college transfer Rashonna Thomas (Minneapolis, Minn./Columbia Heights HS (Anoka-Ramsey CC)) paced the Saints with a game-high 22 points, including nine points in the fourth quarter.
-Senior guard Sam Brannen (Ramsey, Minn./Anoka HS) added 17 points in the victory.
-Brannen scored a career-high 21 points against the Auggies last season.
-Senior Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) grabbed 10 rebounds and added three blocks and four assists in the victory.
-The Saints last won back-to-back games against MIAC programs was the first two games of the 1994-95 season.
 
What You Need to Know about Augsburg:
-The Auggies are off to a 0-2 start with a pair of losses against Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schools University of Wisconsin-Superior and Martin Luther College.
-Tuesday will be the home opener for Augsburg.
-K'Aezha Wubben and Aiza Wilson are each averaging 11 points per game thru the first two games.
-Arianna Jones is averaging a team-best five rebounds per contest.
-Sophomore guard Tamira McLemore was an All-MIAC choice as a freshman and is averaging 9.5 points per game.
-The Auggies have been picked to finish fifth in the MIAC this season.

Series History: The Auggies have won the last five meetings … The Saints are 2-2 all-time in Minneapolis with the last contest ending in a one-point Augsburg victory in 2015.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will make the trek to Colorado Springs where it will take part in the Colorado College Rocky Mountain Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday. CSS will open with Colorado College on Friday at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time (6:30 p.m. local).
