MILWAUKEE, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team trailed by three goals to the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) after two periods, but scored three goals in an eight-minute stretch of the third period to force overtime and ultimately settled for a 3-3 tie with the Raiders on Friday night in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action.

Saints Fall Behind
MSOE led 1-0 after one period following a Chris Hinrichs unassisted goal. The Saints managed only three shots on net in the first period.

The Raiders added two goals in the second period, an Evan Kearns even-strength tally and a Gage Christianson power-play goal as MSOE led 3-0 at the second intermission.

The Comeback
The Saints entered the third period with only 10 shots on goal. Whatever Head Coach Mark Wick said at the break must have helped as the Saints started to attack the net and it didn't hurt that MSOE committed four penalties in the period.

St. Scholastica took advantage of one of those penalties five minutes into the period as Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) got the Saints on the board with a power-play goal. Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) and Brett Radford (Campbell River, British Columbia/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL)) had the assists.

Then midway into the period Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) found the back of the net unassisted to make it a 3-2 game. The Raiders committed another penalty with seven minutes left and the Saints took advantage with Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)) recording his first goal of the season to tie the contest at 3-3.

The Saints out-shot the Raiders 21-9 in the third period and had another power-play chance late, but the scoring chances actually favored MSOE as the contest went to overtime.

Crazy End to Overtime
The Saints kept the momentum going in the five-minute overtime, out-shooting the Raiders 6-2. In the final 20 seconds, the Saints had a two-on-one opportunity and Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL))'s shot just went wide. The puck went all the way back to the Saints' blue line where they would turn it over and MSOE had a prime scoring chance as time was winding down, but the skater was held going in for the shot and time expired. A penalty was called on the Saints, but no penalty shot was awarded as the game ended in a 3-3 tie.

Goaltending
Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) earned credit for the tie after coming in relief. He stopped all 14 shots he faced in the final 32:50 of the game, including a MSOE penalty shot three minutes into the third period. That stop seemed to galvanize the Saints. Zach Woodman had 34 saves for the Raiders.
