ST. PAUL (
csssaints.com) – In similar fashion to last year's NCAA Division III Tournament first round game, No. 7 Macalester College scored late on Sunday, two goals in the final 12 minutes, to defeat the St. Scholastica men's soccer team 2-0.
Late Goals
After the first 77 minutes of the contest was scoreless, the Scots had a throw-in into the box that was headed straight up into the air. CSS would be unable to control it or clear it and the ball was eventually headed in by Austin Burrows with 12:03 remaining to give Macalester a 1-0 lead.
Then with 45 seconds left, the Scots had a free kick from the top of the box and it was drilled into the upper right corner to make the final 2-0.
St. Scholastica's
Corrado Rosato (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) made five saves in the loss, while Zeke Vainer earned the shutout stopping only one shot.
Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) had the lone shot on goal for the Saints in the opening 10 minutes of the game.
