csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team scored six runs in the first three innings en route to an 8-4 victory on Monday over Eastern Connecticut State University.
The ActionSteven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) got the Saints on the board with a two-run triple in the bottom of the first. He later scored on a
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ) RBI single to give CSS a 3-0 lead after one inning.
A Warrior error helped extend the second inning and the Saints made them pay as
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) delivered a two-run single, bringing in
Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) and
Haydn Lanoue (Rosemount, Minn. /Rosemount HS ) to extend the lead to 5-0.
Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) led off the third inning with a double. A. Colvard then brought him in with a single through the left side to make it 6-0.
The Saints tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-0 when T. Bernsdorf hit a two-out, two-run triple to plate
Michael Grove (Edina, Minn./Edina HS ) and Minks.
The Warriors (6-2) took advantage of a CSS error in the seventh to score two runs and then had an inside-the-park two-run home run in the top of the ninth to make the final score 8-4.
PitchingJacob Dzubay (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS (Butler) ) pitched four scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing only four hits.
Ben Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn. /Osseo HS) made his collegiate debut with 2.2 innings of relief, striking out three.
Seth Anderson (Robbinsdale, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper HS ) closed it out, pitching the final 2.1 innings.
Top Offensive PerformersT. Bernsdorf was 2-for-4 with three RBIs with Minks also going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in. A. Colvard was 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
