Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) drove in
Haydn Lanoue (Rosemount, Minn. /Rosemount HS ) in the top of the 10
th inning to give the St. Scholastica baseball team a 3-2 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh on Friday to open play at the RussMatt Invitational.
The ActionThe Titans scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the second. After the teams exchanged double plays to end the third inning, the Saints were able to get two runs across in the top of the fourth.
Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) forced a one-out walk and then scored on a
Riley Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn. /Floodwood HS) double. Bernsdorf then came in to score when his brother,
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ), singled to right field to make it 2-1.
Oshkosh loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the fourth, but CSS starter
Martin Alcoverde (Tucson, Ariz. /Sahuarita HS (Mesabi Range CC)) induced an infield fly and a line out to end the threat.
The Titans were able to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh on a one-out sacrifice fly.
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) led off the top of the ninth with a double and advanced to third on a groundout. However, he would be stranded at third. The game went to extra innings after the Titans went down in order in the bottom frame.
Chris Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS ) led off the 10
th with another double. Lanoue came in to pinch run for Olson. After two quick outs, Lanoue advanced to third on a wild pitch. A. Colvard then ripped a hit to left to bring in Lanoue and give the Saints the 3-2 lead.
Jake Turner (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS ) would get a double play to end the game as the Saints prevailed 3-2.
PitchingJoe Gonrowski (Elk River, Minn./Elk River HS ) earned the victory in relief, not allowing a hit in three innings of work. Alcoverde got the no decision, scattering six hits in six innings and striking out two. Turner earned the save.
Top Offensive PerformersAustin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) and
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ) had three hits apiece as the Saints finished with 11 hits. Oshkosh finished with six hits, two of which by Andy Brahier.
