MEQUON, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The No. 13 St. Scholastica men's hockey team bounced back after a tough loss on Friday night and grabbed road win against Concordia University (Wis.) by a final score of 5-1 on Saturday.
First PeriodThe Saints scored two goals late in the first period to take a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
The first goal was scored by
Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) at the 15:41 mark of the period with assists by
Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) and
Josh Hansen (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Unity Christian School (Chilliwack-BCHL) ).
Just 41 seconds later
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) would score the second goal on a power play with Bruce and
Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) tallying helpers on that goal.
Second PeriodConcordia would cut the score to 2-1 early in the second when Nick Erb beat Saints goaltender
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) with just over 14 minutes to play in the period.
Less than two minutes later, however, Nowakowski would take the two goal lead back with his second power play goal of the game again getting helpers from Bruce and Millin.
With the score at 3-1 and 6:43 remaining in the second period, Bruce would follow up his three assists with a goal of his own that put CSS up by three goals at 4-1. Hansen would add to his assist total on the night with the lone assist on the Bruce goal.
Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) would wrap up a three goal second period for the Saints with their third power play goal of the night with 2:14 left in the period. Bruce and
Joel Paiement (Okotoks, Alberta/Holy Trinity Academy (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) got credited with the assists on the play.
After a very busy second period, CSS found themselves up on the scoreboard 5-1, and that is where they would stay as they played to a scoreless third en route to a 5-1 road victory over Concordia Wisconsin.
Bruce would finish his career night with five total points on a goal and four assists. Bruggeman finished with 24 saves to earn the victory.
Up NextSt. Scholastica (14-5-2, 12-4-0 NCHA) will next be in action this Friday when they host St. Norbert College (Wis.) for the first game of a weekend series with that game set to begin at 7 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena.
