FOND DU LAC, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team never led as Marian University (Wis.) completed the sweep of the Saints by a final tally of 4-2 on Saturday in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play.

Busy First Period
The Sabres got on the scoreboard first once again less than seven minutes into the contest on a Scott Salberg even-strength goal. It remained that way until the final two-and-half minutes of the first period when things got hectic.

CSS tied the score at 1-1 with an unassisted short-handed goal by Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) with 2:27 remaining. Marian regained the lead with 1:01 left on a Cole McCaig goal only to see the Saints respond 36 seconds later on a Brett Radford (Campbell River, British Columbia/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL)) goal to make it 2-2 at the first intermission. Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) was credited with the assist.

Sabres Take the Lead for Good
The score was still 2-2 with less than three minutes left in the second period when Marian was able to break the tie with a Hunter Stewart goal to make the score 3-2 at the third intermission.

The Sabres added insurance with seven minutes to go in the third period with a Jake Howie goal. CSS would put seven shots on net in the final five minutes, but Marian goaltender Mike Baldwin stopped them all to give the Sabres the 4-2 victory.

Goaltending
Zane Steeves (Red Deer, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (100 Mile Wranglers-KIJHL)) had his first collegiate start for the Saints and recorded 29 saves in the defeat. Baldwin had 28 saves in the win for the Sabres.

Up Next
The Saints (4-5-0, 3-3-0 NCHA) will be out of conference next weekend as they face-off against Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) teams Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday and Saint John's University on Saturday. CSS will be at Gustavus on Friday night with puck drop scheduled for 7 p.m.
