Men's Hockey Gets Back on Track with Win over Gusties

ST. PETER, Minn. (csssaints.com) – Senior Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) recorded a pair of goals to lead the St. Scholastica men's hockey team past Gustavus Adolphus College 4-1 on Friday night in non-conference play.
 
Excellent Start
The Saints got the fast start they were looking for when Millin lit the lamp three minutes and 31 seconds into the game to make it 1-0. It remained 1-0 until the final three minutes of the period when Brett Radford (Campbell River, British Columbia/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL)) extended the margin to 2-0 with an even-strength goal. Josh Hansen (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Unity Christian School (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) and Kristofer McKinzie (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) were credited with the assists. The Saints led 2-0 at the first intermission. St. Scholastica out-shot the Gusties 17-9 in the period.
 
Maintain the Lead
Gustavus took advantage of an early power-play opportunity in the second period and got on the board two minutes and 27 seconds into the period to make it 2-1
 
The Saints responded with Millin's second tally of the night with 4:38 left in the second period to make the second intermission score 3-1. Kyle Star (Langley, British, Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) and Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) had the assists.
 
The scoreboard did not change in the third period until Nolan Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) recorded the empty-net goal with 16 seconds left to make the final score 4-1 St. Scholastica. Ryan Cooper (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster Secondary (Dauphin-MJHL) ) had the assist.
 
Goaltending
Peter Megariotis (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Canyon HS (Adrian)) had 26 saves in the victory for the Saints, while Erik Johnson had 25 saves in the loss for the Gusties.
