DeLestry Tops CSS Men's Skiers in 15k Freestyle

HOUGHTON, Mich. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's Nordic ski team took part in the 15km freestyle race on Sunday as part of the Michigan Tech Junior National Qualifier.

The Action
The newly-fallen snow and the frigid temperatures made for difficult ski conditions on Sunday. Sophomore Dan DeLestry (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) was the top CSS performer, coming across the finish line in 16th place with a time of 49:36. DeLestry was in 20th after his first lap, but made up four spots in the latter half of the race.

Sam Boardman (Woodbury, Minn./East Ridge HS) was two seconds back of DeLestry to finish 17th. Jack Christianson (Arden Hills, Minn./Mounds View HS) was 19th, posting a time of 49:39. Ryan St. Clair (Bend, Ore./Summit HS (Walla Walla)) also posted a top 20 finish, coming home 20th with a time of 49:59.

The Winner
Former Northern Michigan University skier Kyle Bratrud won the event in a time of 43:32.

Up Next
The Saints will be off until January when they begin Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA)/NCAA Qualifier races. That starts in Cable, Wisconsin at Telemark on January 21 and 22.
