csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored three goals in each of the first two periods en route to a 7-0 victory at Finlandia University (Mich.) on Saturday night in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action.
First PeriodKeegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) got the Saints on the scoreboard four minutes and 30 seconds into the game with an assist from
Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)). The Saints then added a pair of power-play goals in the final five minutes of the period.
Justin Krabben (Rocky Mountain House, Alberta/Hunting Hills HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) had the first with
Michael Spring (Kelowna, British Columbia/Okanagan Mission (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) and
Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) being credited with the assists.
Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) had the second in the final minute with assists from Bruce and Whiteley.
Second PeriodGolka found the back of the net six minutes into the second period to make it 4-0.
Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) had the assist. Spring added a power-play goal with nine minutes left in the period. Sutliffe and
Josh Hansen (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Unity Christian School (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) had the assists. Phee then added his second of the night before the period ended to make it 6-0 at the second intermission. Krabben and
Hunter Bergerson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minot-NAHL) ) had the assists.
Complete the ShutoutSam Williams (Winnipeg, Manitoba/River East Collegiate (Melville-SJHL) ) added a goal midway through the third period to add the extra point and make it 7-0. Bruce and
Brandon Parrone (Peoria, Ariz./Brophy College Prep (Melfort-SJHL) ) were credited with the assists. The only thing that was left to be decided was whether the Saints would shut out the Lions.
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) stopped the five shots he saw in the period to complete the shutout as he stopped 15 shots on the night,
