csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team fell behind 1-0, but responded with four straight goals on its way to a 6-2 victory over Finlandia University (Mich.) on Sunday in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) play.
First PeriodFinlandia's leading scorer Francois Cote got the Lions on the board for the first time on the weekend four minutes and 30 seconds into the game.
The Saints knotted it up when
Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) scored his third goal of the series with a power-play tally midway through the period.
Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)) and
Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) had the assists. CSS took the lead three minutes later on a
Justin Krabben (Rocky Mountain House, Alberta/Hunting Hills HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) goal.
Sam Williams (Winnipeg, Manitoba/River East Collegiate (Melville-SJHL) ) had the assist as the Saints led 2-1 at the first intermission.
Second PeriodOnly 59 seconds into the second period, St. Scholastica extended the lead to 3-1 on a
Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) goal.
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) was credited with the assist.
Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) scored 16 seconds later to make it 4-1. Krabben and
Michael Spring (Kelowna, British Columbia/Okanagan Mission (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) had the assists.
After the Lions added a goal, Nowakowski answered for the Saints to make it 5-2 at the end of two periods. Millin and Phee had the assists.
Phee Caps Off Solid WeekendOnly one goal was scored in a chippy third period and it was Phee who registered his second of the game and his fourth of the weekend. Nowakowski and Millin had the assists.
There was a total of 13 penalties called in the third period alone for a total of 77 minutes.
GoaltendingTyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) made just seven saves to earn the victory. Finlandia did not have a shot on goal in the third period. Matt Young had 26 saves for Finlandia in the loss.
