DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The No. 15 St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored three goals in the final eight minutes and six seconds to defeat Aurora University (Ill.) 5-3 Saturday night at the Mars Lakeview Arena.

First Period
St. Scholastica capitalized on a power play early in the first period when Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)), assisted by Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) and Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ), fired the puck past the Spartans' goaltender to put the Saints on the board only five minutes into the game and only 10 seconds into the power play. The Saints outshot Aurora 17-6 in the first period, but were unable to score again.

Second Period
The Spartans started the second period out strong. Conor Jonasson scored a minute into the period, with assists by Trevor Hoth and Rihards Marenis, tying the score at 1-1. Only five minutes later, Josh Hansen (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Unity Christian School (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) answered for the Saints, the assists going to Bruce and Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ), to put CSS back on top 2-1.

Not to be outplayed, Aurora's Marenis, assisted by Tom Greene, put a second point on the board for the Spartans towards the tail end of the period. The offensive rally by the Spartans left the score tied 2-2 at the second intermission.

Third Period
Halfway through the final period of the game, Aurora took its first lead of the game after a Ron Lindgren power play goal, with assists on the goal going to Jonasson and Marenis. The loss of the lead spurred an offensive rally by the Saints, beginning when Bruce and Ryan Cooper (New Westminster, British Columbia/New Westminster Secondary (Dauphin-MJHL) ) setup a Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) goal, putting the score at 3-3 with eight minutes to go.

With 1:15 left to play in the game, the Saints regained the lead with a goal by Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ), assists going to Bruce and Nowakowski. The Spartans pulled their goaltender in an attempt to tie the game for the fourth time, but were unsuccessful. St. Scholastica's Nowakowski took advantage of the empty net and tallied his second goal of the night, giving the game its final score of 5-3.

Goaltending
Peter Megariotis (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Canyon HS (Adrian)), who transferred to St. Scholastica just a few weeks ago, got his first start and made 12 saves to earn his first collegiate victory. Lucas Thompson had 44 saves in the loss for the Spartans
