csssaints.com) – The No. 15 St. Scholastica men's hockey team took care of Lawrence University (Wis.) 6-2 on Friday night for its 10
th win of the season.
Early Period SuccessThe Saints got their first goal of the contest early in the game as
Kristofer McKinzie (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) registered his first collegiate goal two minutes and 40 seconds in.
Michael Spring (Kelowna, British Columbia/Okanagan Mission (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) and
Hunter Bergerson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minot-NAHL) ) had the assists. That was the lone scoring of the first period.
CSS then scored two goals, 29 seconds apart in the opening two minutes of the second period to extend its lead to 3-0. Spring had the first goal and
Josh Hansen (Chilliwack, British Columbia/Unity Christian School (Chilliwack-BCHL) ) added the second.
Kale Derkson (Regina, Saskatchewan/Sheldon Williams Collegiate/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Notre Dame-SJHL)) and
Joel Paiement (Okotoks, Alberta/Holy Trinity Academy (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) were credited with assists on the Spring goal and
Derek Sutliffe (Las Vegas, Nev./Odyssey Charter School (Langley Rivermen-BCHL) ) had the assist on the Hansen tally. Lawrence added a goal midway through the second to make it 3-1 after two periods of play.
Three-Goal Third PeriodIt was another early period goal for St. Scholastica to open the third as Derkson lit the lamp a minute and 18 seconds in to make it 4-1. Spring and Paiement had the assists.
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) scored with under 13 minutes to play with an assist from
Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ). After a Viking goal, Nowakowski added another with Hansen and
Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) assisting to make the final score 6-2.
GoaltendingTyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) made 28 saves to earn the victory for the Saints. Bruggeman now has 34 career wins, which is one shy of the program record. Mattias Soderqvist had 37 saves for the Vikings
