HOLLAND, Mich. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the year after defeating Hope College (Mich.) 5-2 Friday evening at VanAndel Stadium.
The Saints scored three goals in the first 23 minutes of the game.
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) had the first tally in the 16
th minute by way of a penalty kick and
Kyle Farrar (London, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) added his second goal in as many games less than two minutes later.
Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) scored his first goal of the season in the 23
rd minute as the Saints led 3-0 at halftime. St. Scholastica out-shot the Flying Dutchmen 14-7 in the half.
Hope (1-1-0) came out firing in the second half and quickly cut the margin to 3-2 in the first five minutes. Jared Wondergem had the first goal in the 48
th minute and Ryan Woodside the second in the 50
th minute.
In the 65
th minute, Corcoran successfully attempted his second penalty kick of the night to extend the CSS lead to 4-2.
Jonny Winter (Healthfield, England/Healthfield Community College) netted the final goal of the game for the Saints in the 72
nd minute to make the final 5-2.
Sandy Davidson-Hunt (Kenora, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) made only one save to earn his second victory of the year.
