DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team started off the conference season with a bang as the Saints defeated UMAC rival Northland College by a final score of 12-0 on Tuesday at Saints Field.
First HalfThe Saints wasted no time as
Shawayne Folkes (Toronto, Ontario/Maxwell Heights) scored his fourth goal of the season off of a
Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) assist just 35 seconds into the contest to give CSS an early 1-0 lead. Not to be outdone,
Kyle Farrar (London, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) scored his fourth, fifth and sixth goals of the year to break the contest open early at 4-0. Farrar poked a ball fumbled in front of the net at 7:14, and scored his second goal under two minutes later. In the 23
rd minute, Farrar would complete the hat trick courtesy of a
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College) assist.
However, Farrar would share the wealth, assisting on Folkes' second score of the contest in the 25
th minute to put CSS up 5-0.
Kyle Hewitt (Richmond Hill, Ontario/St. Theresa of Lisieux) and
Jonny Harkin (Studley, England/St. Benedicts School) would score the final two goals of the half thanks to a pair of assists from
Luke Buckton (Beth, England/Writhlington School), bringing the score to 7-0.
Second HalfThe Saints started the second half much like the first, continuing to pour it on early and often.
Charlie Crane (Southampton, England/Brockenhurst College) started the second half scoring, burying the Buckton cross in the 50
th minute to give Buckton a hat trick of assists and extend the CSS lead to 8-0.
Just 28 seconds later, Harkin would bury a rebound off of a blocked shot for his second score of the game. Ferrar would score his final goal of the contest in the 53
rd minute off of a penalty kick to push the Saints' lead to 10-0. Morgan and
Ryan Flynn (Adelaide, Australia/Modbury HS (Century College)) scored their first goals of the season to cap off the scoring, giving CSS the convincing 12-0 victory.
Up NextCSS (5-1) will next be in action when they travel to Northwestern on Saturday to continue UMAC regular season play. That match is set to kickoff at 2:00 p.m. in St. Paul. The Saints will also face the University of St. Thomas on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. as well.
