DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team fell to Macalester College by a final score of 2-0 on Friday at Saints Field marking its first loss of the young season.
First HalfMacalester struck early in the first half on a goal by Austin Burrows in the 9
th minute of the match to put CSS in an early 1-0 hole.
The rest of the half was played out fairly evenly with each team managing no more than six shots on goal for the entire half.
Second HalfThe second half saw a back and forth effort by both teams with each side trading shots on goal. Unfortunately for CSS, Macalester hit paydirt first with a penalty shot goal late in the 78
th minute after a Saints penalty.
CSS tried in desperation to score a few late goals, but all was for naught as they suffered their first loss of the season on their home field by a final score of 2-0.
Jonny Winter (Healthfield, England/Healthfield Community College) led the attack for the Saints recording four shots on goal while goaltender
Sandy Davidson-Hunt (Kenora, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) stopped four shots for the Saints.
