COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team was unable to come up with a victory on Sunday afternoon as they fell to Saint John's University by a score of 6-2.
The Johnnies got off to a quick start as they took advantage of having runners on the corners when Logan Hershey doubled to center field to bring in the first run of the game. After a sacrifice fly to bring in another run, Tom Druk would finish up the scoring for the inning as he brought in Hershey on a RBI-single to right field.
Neither team would be able to get anything going offensively until the fifth inning as Saint John's would increase their lead. Hershey would bring in two more runners on a single up the middle to make it 5-0. The Saints would get one back in the top of the sixth inning as they took advantage of a couple of errors by the Johnnies. With two outs,
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) singled to the shortstop and would advance to second and third on a fielding error with
Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) also getting on base on a fielder's choice.
Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) would then reach first on another error by the Johnnies with Bernsdorf scoring in the process.
Saint John's answered right back as Mike Stegora hit a home run to right field to make it 6-1. CSS would try to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh as
Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) tripled to right field and came in to score on the next at-bat as
Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) singled through the left side. That's all the Saints could muster up though as the final score ended up being 6-2.
