ASHLAND, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team completed the season sweep of Northland College on Tuesday, taking both games of a doubleheader at LumberJack Field.

Game 1: CSS 11, Northland 4

The Saints scored five runs in the top of the sixth to overtake the LumberJacks and controlled the rest of the way to win 11-4.

CSS led 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth until Northland had three, two-out RBI singles in the frame to take a 3-2 lead.

The Saints had their first three batters reach base in the top of the sixth. After a runner was cut down at the plate, Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 3-3. Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) then scored on a passed ball to give CSS a 4-3 lead. A Northland error plated Jake Kuschke (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS ) and Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS (Doane) ) later knocked in two runs to make it 7-3.

A Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) RBI single extended the lead to 8-3 in the top of the eighth. The Saints added three more runs in the top of the ninth. Ryan Burmeister (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS (Augustana, S.D.) ) and Padraic Getchell (Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater HS (North Dakota) ) had RBIs in the inning.

Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) picked up the win for the Saints. Risse struck out three in the game and scattered seven hits. Jacob Dzubay (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS (Butler) ) earned the three-inning save. Nuetzling and Minks had three hits apiece to lead the CSS 11-hit attack.

Game 2: CSS 8, Northland 3

The Saints trailed 3-0 after five innings, but scored six runs between the sixth and seventh innings to overcome the LumberJacks.

Game two was scoreless after 3.5 innings until the LumberJacks had two runs come in on a Will Serviss RBI single. After St. Scholastica stranded the bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Northland added another run on a Daniel Kollauf RBI double in the bottom frame.

CSS had two quick outs in the top of the sixth, but Minks got the two-out rally started with a double. After a walk, Michael Grove (Edina, Minn./Edina HS ) drove in Minks to put the Saints on the board. Risse then tripled to plate two and tie the game at 3-3.

The seventh inning was all about the extra-base hits. First Bernsdorf tripled. Tyler Duex (Bloomer, Wis./Chippewa Falls HS (UW-Superior) ) then drove in Bernsdorf with a double. Minks doubled in Duex and Shayne Ciernia (Eagan, Minn./Breck HS ) doubled in Minks to make it 6-3 Saints after six.
