DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team dropped its second consecutive game at the Land of Magic Classic with a 53-39 loss to Hood College (Md.) on Tuesday.
 
Scoring Troubles
The Saints shot 25 percent from the field in the first half and only 22 percent in the second half to finish at 24 percent for the game. The 39 points tie a program record for the fewest points scored in a game. The 13 made field goals are a program record for the fewest in a game.
 
First Half
The Saints were out-scored 22-8 in the paint and 11-2 in points off turnovers in the first half. CSS made its first field goal 10 minutes into the game on a Nate Weets (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) 3-pointer. The Blazers led 21-2 at one point and led by as much as 22 before the Saints cut it to 33-19 at halftime.
 
Second Half
The Saints played better in the second half holding the Blazers to 26 percent shooting. Unfortunately, they would only get as close as 10 in the half as Hood prevailed 53-39.
 
Top Performances for CSS
Andrew Laughlin (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Central HS) led the Saints once again with 10 points. Jake Naslund (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) had eight points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) had seven points and seven rebounds.
 
Top Performances for Hood
Daniel Wegener had 12 points and led the Blazers (8-4) with nine rebounds. Malik Harris added 10 points off the bench.
 
Up Next
The Saints (7-4) return to the Midwest and get back to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action on Saturday when it travels to take on Crown College.
