Men's Hockey Ends First Half with Loss to Saint John's

ST. CLOUD, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The No. 15 St. Scholastica men's hockey team allowed two Saint John's University goals in the first 10 minutes of the game and then allowed three goals in the span of 38 seconds in the second period as it fell to the Johnnies 7-2 on Saturday night.
 
Slow Start
Tyson Fulton put Saint John's on the board four minutes and 19 seconds into the game. Midway through the period Sean Lang extended the Johnnie lead to 2-0.
 
With 1:45 remaining in the opening period, Keegan Bruce (Bellingham, Wash./Bellingham HS (Weyburn-SJHL) ) cut the margin to 2-1 with a power-play goal. Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)) and Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) had the assists. However, the Johnnies responded less than 30 seconds later with a Zach Glienke goal to take a 3-1 lead at the first intermission.
 
Johnnies Put it Away in the Second
With the score still the same seven minutes into the second period, the Johnnies would turn a 3-1 lead into the 6-1 advantage in the span of 38 seconds. Connor Kelly scored the first with 12:16 on the clock. Huba Sekesi added the second 29 seconds later. The third goal in the series came nine seconds after the second.
 
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) added St. Scholastica's second goal to make it 6-2, but the Johnnies added one more in the second to complete the scoring in the contest.
 
Goaltending
Corey Koop (Squamish, British Columbia/Howe Sound Secondary (UW-Stout)) picked up the loss for the Saints making 17 saves in 27-plus minutes of action. Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) came in relief of Koop and had 15 saves in in 32-plus minutes of play. Tyler Nelson had 25 saves to earn the win for the Johnnies.
 
Up Next
The Saints (6-3-1) will be off until after the holidays and get back to action on January 9 and 10 in Hancock, Michigan to face Finlandia University.
