DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The No. 15 St. Scholastica men's hockey team defeated Gustavus Adolphus College at Mars Lakeview Arena by a final score of 4-1 behind three unanswered goals in the final two periods.
First PeriodCSS found the scoreboard first early in the first period when
Dylan Nowakowski (Calgary, Alberta/Centennial HS (Brooks-AJHL) ) took a
Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) pass and buried it home to give CSS a 1-0 lead just 3:20 into the game.
Unfortunately for CSS, Gustavus would tie the game seven minutes later to make it 1-1 at the first intermission.
Second PeriodThe second period saw CSS score two goals within four minutes of one another to take a 3-1 lead. First
Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) scored with assists by Phee and
Justin Krabben (Rocky Mountain House, Alberta/Hunting Hills HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) with just over 12 minutes to play in the period.
After assisting the first two CSS, goals Phee would go on to top his two assists with a goal of his own with 8:42 to go in the period to set the set the score at 3-1 heading into the third period.
Third PeriodCSS scored their fourth goal of the game 11:12 into the third period, before Gustavus recorded their first shot of the period.
Joel Paiement (Okotoks, Alberta/Holy Trinity Academy (Calgary Canucks-AJHL) ) would get credit for the goal, which occurred short-handed during a Gustavus power play.
In the end, CSS would ride out its three-goal lead to an impressive non-conference win over Gustavus Adolphus College by a final score of 4-1.
Goaltender
Tyler Bruggeman (North Mankato, Minn./Mankato West HS (Austin-NAHL) ) stopped 19-of-20 shots on the night for CSS, while Phee totaled three points with a goal and two assists.
