ASHLAND, Wis. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's soccer team defeated Northland College Tuesday afternoon in the regular season finale 11-0 to finish another UMAC schedule unbeaten and untied.
First HalfCSS scored seven goals in the first half to seal the match early.
Tom Corcoran (Warrington, England/Great Sankey HS, Priestley College),
Charlie Crane (Southampton, England/Brockenhurst College), and
Ben Phillips (Lymm, England/Lymm HS) all scored goals in the first 20 minutes to set the CSS lead to 3-0.
Sean Morgan (Belfast, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Grammar School) recorded the assist on all three goals.
After a 16 minute scoreless run, CSS rattled off four goals in less than seven minutes to end the first half.
Kyle Farrar (London, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) started the onslaught with a goal at the 36:35 mark, and was followed by two
Jonny Winter (Healthfield, England/Healthfield Community College) goals. Winter's first goal was at the 39:42 mark, and his second was less than three minutes later at the 42:06 mark.
The final goal of the half was scored by
Luke Buckton (Beth, England/Writhlington School) as he put home an unassisted goal with just 1:50 to go in the half. By the time the halftime whistle sounded, CSS found themselves enjoying a 7-0 lead.
Second HalfFarrar scored three goals in the second half to bring his game total to four. He scored at the 50:42, 65:12, and 66:01 points of the match. Corcoran tallied the assist on the final two goals, while Crane was credited for an assist on the first. With just under 24 minutes left in the match, CSS found itself up by double digits at 10-0.
The last goal for CSS was scored on a penalty kick by
Joey Benz (Zimmerman, Minn./Elk River HS) in the 81
st minute of the match to bring the score to 11-0. The Saints would ride out the last nine minutes of the match to coast to an 11-0 victory in their UMAC regular season finale,
Farrar would finish with four goals, while Corcoran finished with a goal and three assists. Goaltender
Chris Rothstein (Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice HS) got the shutout win for the Saints, his fifth of the season.
